Photography Workshop Testimonials

Below you can view some feedback from my previous and regular workshop participants.

Landscape photography is not my favorite genre but I decided to do a workshop to force myself out of my comfort zone. Attracted by Paulo Silva's photographs, I signed up for the “Porto e Aveiro” workshop. I could hardly have made a better choice. The locations were perfect, alternating between the unavoidable and the lesser-known corners. Paulo, in addition to being a great photographer and an impeccable professional, was always available to help and stimulate us, and did not rest until all the elements of the group had taken “A” photograph in each spot. Landscape photography is still not the one that touches me the most, but when I do another workshop - and I will - it will be with Paulo again.

In the past 2 years I have been lucky to be able to do 2 photo workshops with Paulo, in Algarve and in Aveiro. Both tours were excellent. Paulo knows the area like the back of his hand, and also the suitable moments to be there to get the best possible images. On both occasions I returned home with a large number of good photos and I am very grateful to Paulo for making this possible. I hope to return to Portugal soon and visit a new area with him again.

Between Christmas 2018 and the New Year, that time when the excitement of Christmas has faded and thoughts of what you might do with yourself in coming new year, I sat down with a cup of tea and the ipad and started looking at photography workshops. Many were the same old locations Iceland, the Lake district, Scotland etc. but one in particular jumped out at me as being a little different… Portugal. I looked at the images from a photographer I have to admit I had never heard of, but his images were amazing – Bright, sharp and there was something I couldn’t put my finger on but I loved these images, so I booked the workshop and thought nothing more than it was something to look forward to in November!!!! Within the hour I had a message from Paulo Silva welcoming me and his looking forward to meeting me. I knew then there was something different about Paulo. Over the coming months this stranger that I’d never met, would comment on the pictures I posted on Facebook – Paulo! Eventually November rolled around, and I finally met the man. We instantly hit it off and from the meet and greet at the airport he was connecting with his guests and really trying to get to know them and what influenced their photography. On every shoot Paulo was mixing amongst everyone giving hints and tips and sharing jokes. Paulo knew the locations impeccably and what would work and what wouldn’t and shared this with each and every one of the guests, ensuring that YOU got that perfect shot. Every evening in the hotel Paulo was sat at the bar sipping a cold beer and eating peanuts and would welcome each individual as they appeared from the lift to join him for dinner. His pride in Portugal was only too apparent and he went out of his way to make sure we all savoured the flavours of Porto wine and the special “Christmas” cake. If you are looking at workshops and wondering if this is the one for you, think no more, you will not enjoy any workshop more than a workshop with Paulo Silva – Once you have met him you will have a friend for life.

I got to know Ria de Aveiro ,through Paulo Silva . I met Paulo in Leon, in a workshop on landscape photography. The first time I went to the Ría, I felt the connection that existed between Paulo and the Ría, its customs, its boats, its sunrises, its landscapes, its people, its gastronomy… all of that caught me in a my sticaltune . I am a diver ,and I amused to getting upearly , to marathondays , but the Ría is something else , and Paulo has an extra sensoryunion that he has transmitted to me . I'mback, and I always go with the illusion and the hope of feeling that sensation that rises from my feet to my head, flooding Ria's entire body. Paulo is the best host, the best representative of that Ria, he enjoy steaching her because he knows every corner of her, and transmits that feeling to those who are with him. I have known parts of Portugal for as long as I can remember, but Paulo hasshown me the heartof Portugal in the Ria sunrises. Both Paulo and Ria de Aveiro remain in my hearts forever.

I had a private workshop with Paulo featuring Porto and Aveiro. Paulo not only brought me to some fantastic sunrise and sunset locations but was also an excellent host introducing me to some Portuguese cuisine and excellent coffee.

I spent a most enjoyable and informative week in March with Paulo, travelling around Porto and Aveiro catching both sunrise and sunset each day in a different location. Paulo’s patient and friendly manner helped me improve my technique in the field with a better understanding of the technical aspects of successful landscape photography with the use of a range of Lee filters and learning to “see” the picture at each location. Paulo followed this up with sessions on the laptop explaining how to successfully process the images using a range of software to achieve the desired results. In addition, we were able to capture some exciting seascape images during the days and explore some of the delightful local scenery. A great week and I came away with some stunning images and a head full of new skills to apply to my photography.
