Discover Portugal's Photographic Treasures
Embark on an extraordinary photographic journey through Portugal's most captivating landscapes, where dramatic Atlantic shores meet timeless European charm.
Lisbon: Urban Architecture Meets River Grandeur
Our adventure begins in cosmopolitan Lisbon, where you'll capture the architectural grandeur of the iconic Vasco da Gama Bridge—stretching eleven magnificent miles across the Tagus River, it’s one of Europe's longest spans. This engineering marvel offers perfect opportunities for dramatic sunrise silhouettes and long exposures, and sweeping panoramic compositions that showcase the bridge's elegance against the beautiful skyline. Don't miss photographing Lisbon's charming cobblestone streets and vibrant tiled facades that hold centuries of history.
The Algarve: Coastal Drama Unleashed
From the capital, we venture south to the legendary Algarve region, home to some of the Iberian Peninsula's most photogenic coastal scenery. Here, towering golden limestone cliffs carved by millennia of Atlantic storms offer endless compositional possibilities: capture the interplay of light and shadow on weathered rock faces, frame intimate portraits of wildflowers clinging to clifftops, and photograph the mesmerizing contrast between emerald and turquoise waters against warm sandstone rocks.
Hidden Gems and Natural Wonders
The region's hidden sea caves and natural arches provide opportunities for dramatic backlighting effects, while secluded coves reveal pristine beaches where gentle waves create perfect conditions for long exposure seascapes. From the windswept lighthouse at Cabo de São Vicente—Europe's southwestern edge where golden hour light transforms the rugged coastline into a painter's palette—to intimate macro shots of tide pools teeming with marine life, this untamed Portuguese coastline delivers an unparalleled variety of subjects that will challenge and inspire photographers of every skill level.
During our workshop, I will provide photographic guidance, demonstrate the use of filters, talk about composition, shutter speeds, apertures, histograms and more.
Day 1: Pickup in the afternoon (Exact time tba) at Lisbon International Airport. We will travel to our Ibis hotel where we will spend the first night. Afternoon will be spent getting to know each other through some relaxed informal evening photography and dinner.
Day 2: Early morning shoot at the Vasco da Gama Bridge, breakfast at the hotel, transport to Lagos in the Algarve (2 hour 40 min drive)
Days 3-4: We will be out for sunrise & sunset and visit numerous seascape locations, and we will concentrate on the blue hour & evenings while exploring some of the region's fascinating old towns. I will show you many interesting nooks and crannies as well as the better-known and more popular sites.
Day 5: Drive to Lisbon International airport after breakfast (2 hour 40 min drive).

Relatively easy but good footwear needed. Most locations and viewpoints are close to where we will be parked. There may be some walking on uneven terrain which could be wet and muddy, and some locations are hilly. Good sturdy, water resistant boots are advised.
Best place to fly to is Lisbon Airport. If coming from the UK or within Europe, you can find flights at Easyjet or Wizz Air or Ryanair.
I will pick everyone up at Lisbon International Airport. You can get information and public transport options from Lisbon Airport here:
The weather can be quite cold this time of year, and the mornings and evenings colder, so warm clothes. Ideally layers that you can remove or put on as we’ll be shooting before sunrise and after sunset, in the dark, when it will be colder. Bring wet weather gear and a raincover for your camera equipment.
